- Vizio Flat panal TV's take up less room at the curb!!! First, to write this review I had to give it a star. The star in my book is for the looks of the TV. It doesn't deserve any stars.
I had purchased my 50 inch Vizio television 13 months ago. (If you wanna throw away 1400.00 this is the product for you). Thought it was a great buy from the quality and reviews that were probrably written by the company themselves. As I sat in my living room watching my TV, I heard a big "POP". The TV went DEAD!!!!....I called Vizio "thinking" they would take care of the problem. The customer service is horrible!....They told me I had to fax my recepit and would hear from them within 24-48 hours. Well 3 days later I call them back and they tell me "sorry you only have a year warranty." They gave me a phone number where I can call and have someone come to my house for 650.00!!!!. They new exactly what the problem was because apparantely this happens to all their TV's. Do a search you will find about 1000 more people with the same "POP OF DEATH" issue. Unfortunately people have fixed the problem to find out 2 months later it happened again. I'm sorry but this shouldn't happen after a TV is 13 months old and my warranty was only for 12 months. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spend an extra 100.00 and buy a TV thats gonna last and from a company thats gonna stand by their product.
- You just can't get anything better for the price I spent a lot of time researching plasma and LCD TV's in Consumer Reports and everywhere I could get information, and finally we decided that we wanted to put a TV in the living room again, but did not want it to detract too much from the antiques. So, we jumped at the chance when this one went on sale for only 1200 dollars at Circuit City. I have to warn anyone who hasn't already done this, it is a lot heavier than you think. My wife and I finally did get the thing on the wall, but it was a near thing. One or two more tries, and we would have had to quit and try again another day. We did invest in a very good quality wall mount, and even so, we had to watch every now and then to make sure it wasn't breaking loose from the wall. I have been very pleased with the picture quality. We just have standard cable, and an old VCR and a cheap Philips DVD player hooked up to it, so I cannot really do an evaluation on the video quality. Someday soon we will be getting digital cable, and then the picture quality should improve. We had it up and running in time for the Super Bowl party, and everyone was very impressed. The only downside I have noticed is that even with wide-screen DVD's, it seems to stretch the picture sideways, and leaves black bars at the bottom and top. I have to select "zoom" in order to get it to fill the whole screen, which takes a bit off the top and bottom of the picture. Maybe I just don't understand how to set up the DVD(?). Overall, we are very happy with this TV, and would get this one again in an instant.
- Beautiful TV, until it dies on you. I bought this TV in December of 2006. It had great picture quality and was an all around good TV. It is now 15 months later March of 2008 and I went to go turn it on and it made a nice pop and that was it. It is now dead, conveniently after the 1 year warranty has expired. It cost more to repair it than to buy a new TV! I have never in my life had a TV fail on me, I am completely shocked. Never again will I buy a Vizio, never again.
- Vizio 50" looks good but not reliable Bought this TV from Sam's. Looked great for 15 months then focus and sharpness faded. Extended warranty was called to fix red random pixels then again for red correction faults, then finally 2 years and 1 month later the TV became too expansive to fix and now the Extended warranty is in the process of replacing or cash settlement. Nice TV but I would not go through that again - get an extended warranty if you do! Pain in the a$$!
- Plasma burn in? I meant burn up! Bought the new Visio P50 50" Plasma HDTV on Saturday evening and set it up on Sunday morning. Nice picture quality and sound is better than usual. We first viewed from the TV input from the cable DVR box with some live cable broadcasts and the picture quality was good, then we watched some recorded shows from the DVR, still getting a good picture.
Then later in the evening I hooked up the DVD player to the component 1 input, and watched about 1 hour of a DVD movie when all of a sudden the picture turns snowy and then into a 3 color sort of x-ray look. Hummmmm....
Then I checked the DVD player and no problems, and then I changed the input on the VP50 to see if that was it. Any input showed a box that there was "no signal found". Then turned off the power to the VP50, and then turned on the power again. Now the screen only shows a lot of varied blue dots and in no particular order, just random.
Oh, and we smelled a burning plastic smell too, and it was making a crackling sound coming from the back of the unit.
So to recap: Saturday evening - Purchased the VP50. Sunday morning - Set up the VP50 Sunday afternoon- 3 hours viewing time on the VP 50 Sunday evening - 1 hour viewing time on the VP 50 and it burned up! Monday evening -Returned the unit for a full refund.
Good luck with this model!

A Flat Screen Defines Balance The concept of a perfectly made flat screen display says it all, eliminating all ideas of a curvature effect and distorting of edges that are possible to happen in CRT displays. The plasma television also displays a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. The number 16 corresponds to the width of the screen while the number 9 corresponds to the height of the screen. This type of ratio is just appropriate for HDTV as well as in DVD viewing in the format widescreen like those in the movie theaters. read more...
