Many electronic items, especially large expensive pieces of equipment, are returned by consumers for a variety of reasons, some of them valid, and once they have been gone over and insured to be in working order they are sold as refurbished merchandise.

Many times a connection inside the unit may have been missed and it causes a problem with the new unit. The initial customer gets it home and it does not work properly so they return it to the point of purchase. The retailer usually sends it back to the manufacturer, or their representative for a refund and the retailer, depending on the unit's price and description of the problem will fix any problems that may be the root of the issue.
